I am in love with all things homemade. There is something about taking extra time to put something together lovingly. Making homemade lotion isn’t something I thought I’d ever do, but I really enjoyed it! Plus, now that I’ve had it for a while, I know I love this formula. It smells like peppermint, which is lovely any time of the year, but if you want to change the scent it’s quite easy. All you have to do is choose a different essential oil such as lemon or clove.

The recipe is simple: Gather your ingredients, add them together, and whip them up!

I got my ingredients from Wholesale Supplies Plus. Side note – I also bought everything for bulk homemade laundry detergent there, and a few other items over the course of this year. I’ve had a good experience so far with shipping and the quality of supplies so I recommend them.

Here are the ingredients:

20 oz ≈ 1/4 C
20 oz Coconut Oil
20 oz Shea Butter, Mango butter, or Cocoa Butter
20 oz Sweet Almond Oil or Olive Oil

2 tsp Cornstarch (Helps with final texture – less oily on the skin)
15 Drops Peppermint Essential Oil

Tools:

Stand Mixer

Four Half Pint Mason Jars With Lids and Rings

Pretty Ribbon To Decorate

Directions:

Measure out room-temperature oils into the bowl of a stand mixer.

Start mixing with a paddle attachment on low at first.

Gradually turn the mixing speed up to medium then mix for 4-5 min or until smooth.

Turn the mixer back down to the stir setting and add in essential oil and cornstarch.

Test the mixture, if too oily, add another teaspoon of cornstarch.

To store:

Add to a Ziploc bag and cut a corner off to make an easy piping bag.

Pipe into half-pint mason jars.

Lid and ribbon.
